Description

KARNEIA SCULPTURE
Material: 22 gauge mild sheet steel
Process: Cold Forging
Tools: Hammers, anvil, steel stakes
Size: 22" tall

This sculpture has a very special place in my heart. It has been a wonderful collaboration with the model. This piece in many ways was building off of the pose and sculpture that I developed in the Laurel piece [link] [link] . However, the Laurel piece lacked something. In my mind, I was shooting for a certain fluidity and dynamic movement that the Laurel piece lacked. Though still beautiful, I felt like the Laurel piece was still a little rigid in its pose.

And so Karneia was the next step. While working with the model (who was wonderful to work with and deserves as much credit for helping discover the pose) we went through many iterations and variations of this pose until we arrived here, and I think we finally captured the fluidity that was lacking in Laurel.

I agree that this is a huge improvement over the other piece you mentioned! Not only the pose but the fact that the model as a natural amount of body fat. Curves are more fluid than sharp bones at every angle and cut muscle in between. My personal view is that's not feminine, sensual, organic, etc.

Oh, I agree about goddess-like, mentioned elsewhere; I thought that's what you were going for. A little more of a pooch would be better for that, though (I don't think your fiancee would agree, haha.)
