Hoplite Panel 03

This is a commissioned steel panel featuring two greek hoplites fighting with spear and shield. The two warriors are fighting in heroic nude fashion. The steel is a sheet of 22 gauge mild steel. The figures were hammered cold with a dozen different shaped hammers over an anvil. Heat was only applied after hammering in order to give the steel the color. The hints of red are the effects of oxidation (rust). Normally for my sculptures I torch them to give a blue oxidation and then wax them, effectively sealing the sculpture. For this piece, the panel's will be hung outside, and so rather than fight rust, I'm going to embrace it.
