Diablo Fan Art - Silks of the Victor (1) by MHodges Diablo Fan Art - Silks of the Victor (1) by MHodges
I decided to try my hand at fan art for the Diablo series, a game series that has been one of my favorites since I was in 8th grade, so going on about 15 years now. I’ve had this idea of a still life of questing equipment including my favorite armor from Diablo II, the “Silks of the Victor”.

The armor was forged by me out 16 gauge mild carbon steel
The gauntlet was made by me.
The maille was made by me.
The book is Blizzard Entertainment's Book of Cain
The silver sword is a replica of Achilles' sword from Troy
The other sword was a cheap sword I had lying around from an old Halloween costume
The rings are my wedding ring (made by me)) and a ring I bought from Rome
The healing and mana potion bottles are bottles from specialty bottle.

[Diablo, Diablo II, Silks of the Victor, Book of Cain, and all names and characters associated with the game are the property of Blizzard Entertainment]

Glad to see more of your work up here. I really love the finish you left on the musculata. Although I do wish there was a better view of the right shoulder :D

Thanks! for the finish I torched the metal to get the blue-black patina. Then i polished it with really fine grit sand paper. Because I don't grind down the hammer marks, the sanding will hit high marks and leave darker low parts. I know some purist armorers would probably say i'm wrong for not grinding and polishing it smooth, but I personally have always loved seeing hammer marks. It reminds me that it was made by hand and not by a machine.

Yeah, there are those who would dismiss that as a "munitions" grade finish. Which is fine in the context of doing historical reproductions but just comes across as condescending in reference to a piece of sculpture that was inspired by armour.

I am constantly amazed that your armor is the only breastplate I ever want to buy. Every time you make a new one, I just stare at it and mumble "I wants it..."

Thanks. I think my photography skills could improve. I wish the image was just a bit sharper, but I was working in pretty low light so it's not as crisp as i'd like it.
